Podcasting as a TRUE Dummy

Although podcasting has been around for awhile, I have never participated in making one.  I decided that as part of my graduate degree requirements (Ed. M from UIUC) I would learn what I could and try to see if I could do it. My first step was to get the eBook Podcasting for Dummies (free). Next, I had to download the (free) Adobe Digital Editions software to be able to read the book.

As I began to read through it, I discovered I was going to need several more resources. Trying to keep it as simple as possible, I decided to stick with the recommendations in the book. As a result, I ended up downloading Audacity software (free) for recording and sound editing. I already had a microphone/headset that I liked from Cyber Acoustics ($).

I got myself all turned around after that last sentence. I thought I needed a web hosting program to upload my podcasts (can't I just use iTunes) and enthusiastically signed up at bluehost.com.  Once I enrolled and paid my fees,  I login to my own domain name: ralterson.com. A control panel opens and offers to start the Getting Started Wizard. Naturally, I click on it. Aarrgh - now confusion reigns. A page comes up that offers me 30 or so options - but nothing that allows me to create a web page. OK. So I probably need some kind of page designer - and that will cost more $.  This is all very confusing. Do I really have to know how to create a webpage just so I can podcast?

Ignoring webpages and hosts, I return to Podcasting for Dummies. I have recorded a test audio in Audacity and it is simple. You simply press the record button, start speaking, then press the end button.  I've created my podcast and I'm ready to publish it - but that will have to wait for another blogging day.
